22 carat gold Tudor posy ring with the Latin motto Vive ut Vivas inscribed in Roman capitals c.1550.
Size 5. 1.3grams.
Vive ut Vivas, literally “Live that you may Live” is a phrase that suggests that one must live life to the fullest, a fitting ethos in the c16th when the average lifespan was around 35 years. Important to remember in Tudor England only the very wealthiest would have been able to afford a gold ring such as this.
With the beautiful lemon gold colour of an excavated ring the band is deeply chased with diagonal stripes which would have been originally enamelled.Tiny traces of white enamel can be detected.
An exquisite little treasure.
