Poignant and unique hairwork mourning buckle ring c.1800.

The miniature gold buckle is enamelled with the words ‘To Meet Again’. The style of lettering and the decoration in enamel relates to that found on rings of the late c18th.

The buckle measures just 7mm across.

The delicate woven band fits a size 7.5.

The sentiment is reminiscent of the quote ‘We only part to meet again’ by the popular poet and playwright John Gay(1685-1732) taken from the poem ‘Black Eyed Susan’.

Never have I seen such a example of miniature craftsmanship in mourning jewellery.
