Archeological Revival silver pendant depicting Ancient Roman Theatre Masks of Comedy and Tragedy c.1870. 1.5 inch long by 1.2 inch wide.

Ancient Greek and Roman theatre masks were excavated in large numbers during the c18th and c19th as they were a mainstay of Ancient Theatre. Jewellers such as Castellani in the c19th used the theatre mask motif in Etruscan Revival jewellery and the masks are occasionally seen as subjects of cameos and Roman mosaics.
