Fine micro-ivory carving of a crypto-Royalist compostion featuring the Tomb of Louis XVI created after the executions of the French Royal Family.Either side of the urn are the hidden silhouettes of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette and each side of the willow trunk are two other members of the Royal family,one being the Dauphin,after 1793 called Louis XVII. The virtuoso piece is laid to a cobalt blue ground and set to a gilt frame with a pocketwatch style pendant loop.3 1/4 inches from top of loop,2 1/2 inches wide.Condition very fine,only one small branch is detached and lays in front of the plinth.
