Stuart crystal slide  depicting an enamel skull, crossbones and winged hourglass c.1690 with wire work initials H.C. on a woven hair panel, set beneath a rose-cut facetted rock crystal cover.
The high carat gold mourning slide also features a banner with the Latin phrase ‘Sic Transit Gloria Mundi’ meaning ‘Thus passes the glory of the world’, a reminder of the transitory nature of life.
Below the skull  is written MemtMory for Memento Mori.
I have not come across a finer example.
