Regency 15ct two colour gold heart vinaigrette locket c.1830.

One side is decorated with a raised flower and the other raised Gothic capitals which spell the word Sincerité.

Both sides have a matted ground with green gold trailing foliage.

Sincerity as a romantic quality would have been understand by the recipient with more profound meaning than today, relating to honesty, integrity, sensibility and emotional truth.

The original bail still survives as does the interior grille.

2 cms across. 6.58 grams.
