Rare example of a silhouette painted on the reverse of the glass by Isabella Beetham(1750-1825).

Along with John Miers,John Field and Auguste Edouart she is considered one of the great c18th silhouettists.Working from 27 Fleet St.from 1785-1809 she studied portrait painting with John Smart. She was unrivalled in capturing the likeness and character of the sitter through her stylish sweeping  brushstrokes.Here a portrait of a gentlemen with spotted cravate, informal hairstyle tied loosely. The silhouette on the reverse of the convex glass floats above a ground of cream silk,set in gold with a later tapered gold shank.Ring size 6(US),M(UK).Ring top 1 1/2inches by 3/4inches.
