Rare example of a full Silesian collar c.1820. Formed of graduated lace-like ribbons tied with rosettes, joined by stars.Pendant cages hang from the collar creating a full fichu in woven steel.
Silesian jewellery can be viewed as a compliment to Berlin Ironwork and is collected alongside it.
It is a fragile, exquisite art form which almost defies the imagination in its intricacy and manufacture.
This necklace is the finest I’ve seen and is truly a wearable work of art.
18 inches in length.
In 1742, most of Silesia was seized by King Frederick II of Prussia eventually becoming the Prussian Province of Silesia in 1815; consequently, Silesia became part of the German Empire when it was proclaimed in 1871.
