Charming portrait miniature of a young girl in a military inspired jacket and an unusual straw hat by Samuel Shelley(1750-1808).
The miniature is set to its original gold pendant frame with cobalt blue domed glass set to reverse.

Largely self-educated, Samuel Shelley was a leading miniaturist ranking with Cosway, Smart, and Crosse. His watercolours and miniatures were engraved by Bartolozzi, William Nutter, and Caroline Watson.
