Perfect example of a Grand Tour gentleman’s portrait shell cameo c.1830. Original 15ct frame and pin.

Attributed to Giovanni Dies(1776-1849).

Such portraits were commissioned by wealthy tourists as a souvenir of a visit to Rome.The quality of this carving is extremely fine rivalling similar work by Saulini.
