Mid c18th portrait miniature of a fashionable lady in blue, circle of Samuel Cotes c.1760.

The society beauty has pearls at her neck and has her hair festooned with pearls.

The tiny miniature undoubtedly began life as a ring but has been at some point later rehoused in a simple 15 ct gold setting, though the highly domed crystal is likely original to the miniature.

The oval miniature measures 1.8 cms by 1.5 cms.

Size 6.

Samuel Cotes was a notable portrait painter in miniature and crayon and exhibited from 1760 to 1789 at the the Incorporated Society of Artists, of which he was a fellow, and at the Royal Academy. During this time he resided at 25 Percy Street, Rathbone Place.
