'Tassie' 18th century intaglio of a signed gem depicting the head of a young laughing satyr. The glass intaglio is backed with cornelian as a doublet and set to the original  collector's 15 carat gold swivel mount. c.1790.
The signature is signed in Greek for  Ammonios. Seven gems in the Beazeley Archive are signed in the same way.
An c18th example of the gem in cornelian can be found in the  Beverley Collection of Gems at Alnwick Castle.
