An enigmatic portrait of a lady in side profile c.1770, painted en grisaille but with colour to the lips and blue dress, a white underslip, her hair powdered and upswept in the fashionable style of the day.
Signed with initial V (lower right)5.3cm (2 in.) high.
In a gilt metal frame with bright engraved border.
In Daphne Foskett(1987) a portrait is described which was signed with a cursive V. Lot 86 at Sotheby's. 9th May 1928. "A Miniature of a lady Signed V. Long noted that the background and shading of the face were grey,and the head was too large for the body." 
I personally love the elongated neck and the faraway look.
