Hardstone cameo ring of Julia the Elder,the daughter of the first Roman Emperor Augustus and Scribonia. She can be identified by her distinctive elaborate Roman hairstyle.
The agate used has a beautiful translucent speckled quality only visible on close inspection.

Julia (30 October 39 BC – AD 14) was stepsister and second wife of the Emperor Tiberius; maternal grandmother of the Emperor Caligula ; grandmother-in-law of the Emperor Claudius; and maternal great-grandmother of the Emperor Nero.
Julia suffered a spectacular fall from grace when her father disowned and banished her citing her 'dissipated lifestyle',she ended her days dying of malnutrition on the Island of Pandateria.
