Sometimes an inscription reveals a moment of astounding significance.
This George IV pearl,enamel,diamond high carat mourning ring commemorates the life of Rear Admiral Isaac Smith (1752-1831) cousin of Elizabeth Cook who was the wife of Captain James Cook, with whom Isaac sailed on two voyages of exploration in the South Pacific.
He sailed on HM Barque Endeavour on Cook’s famous first voyage and legend has it that he was the first European to ever set foot on Eastern Australian soil at Botany Bay 29th April 1770.
“Jump out Isaac!” exclaimed Cook as the ship’s boat touched the shore.A memorial stands today on a rocky outcrop on the eastern shore of Botany Bay present day Kurnell.
The ring has wear to the inside of the shoulders.Size 7.
