Unusual Georgian sulphide brooch depicting Nelson's flagship HMS Victory c.1805.Likely a commemorative piece produced to celebrate the victory at the Battle of Trafalgar October 1805. This battle inspired a National outpouring of grief and Pride.
HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy launched in 1765 and still in comission today,the world's oldest warship.
Sulphides were popularized by Apsley Pellatt and James Tassie in the late c18th called 'cameo incrustations'.
Set in gold with milled border,domed crystal. 2cms by 2.5cms.
