Stunning late Georgian agate specimen bracelet in 15 carat gold c.1820.

Extremely fine condition.

7.25 inches.

This early example of agate jewellery employs a central cartouche of jaspagate and an array of colourful lozenge stones of deep mossy green, burnt orange,dusky pink and opaque chalcedony. The stones are bevelled and set in perfect cut down settings.

Scottish agate collecting reached a zenith in the c19th where agates from Montrose, Dundee, Perth,Fife and Ayrshire were avidly sourced from the many quarries active at the time. In Galston, the Burn Anne quarry produced much of the agates used for Scottish jewellery.
