A rare form for a mourning brooch,five lockets of hair set within pearl borders,shaped as a pansy,the symbol for 'thinking of you' as in the French verb pensér 'to think'. Each locket has an initial inscribed to the reverse,perhaps for each child/relation of the wearer of the jewel. Possibly a 'sentimental' rather than mourning,but impossible to know without more provenance.
