Superb Rococo heart shaped gold and enamel mourning pendant c.1760.
The elegant ribbon border is enamelled with the words 'She Is Gone but her Impression Remains' and surmounted with an amethyst set bow and a single amethyst at the base.The central crystal encloses a sepia depicting a lidded urn on plinth with the initials M T, flanked by trees. The reverse contains a lock of hair.
Georgian mourning hearts have parallels to Georgian mourning bands with the same variations in design,mottos and ornaments. This particular example has a motto I have not encountered before.
