Georgian moss agate and gold pendant resembling a line of trees in a landscape.c.1790.

The round domed agate is set in a gold cut-down setting.

3/4 inch diameter.

These ‘picture agates’ were highly prized as microcosms of the natural world, collected by artists and scientists alike.

The artist Thomas Gainsborough had a picture agate ring in his collection which is now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. The stone in this pendant is the same type material as the Gainsborough ring.
