Georgian 15 carat pendant fashioned as a gloved hand holding a chained heart c.1820.
The heart drop has a pearl border with a tiny heart shaped hair locket.
Undoubtedly formerly a ‘fichu pin’ which would have been worn on the lace around the neck at the height of the Regency fashion for sentimental jewellery where hands, hearts, padlocks, pansies, and all the symbols of love were fashioned into tiny jewels.
Hand 2cms length, heart 1cms, full length pendant 4cm with chain.
The hand motif symbolised loyalty, strength, romance,fidelity as well as good fortune.
