Classic delicate c18th mourning ring utilising filaments of chopped hair to paint a lidded funerary urn set beneath glass and bordered by pearls,symbolising tears.The flat ring top is set to it's original bevelled shank.At the back of the bezel is inscribed 'Morgan Graves ob.26 Dec 1770 AE.63'.Morgan Graves was born at Mickelton Manor,Mickelton,Gloucestershire and was a member of the Inner Temple,one of the four Inns of Court in London,a society of Barristers and Judges.His brother was the cleric,poet and novelist Richard Graves remembered especially for his picaresque novel The Spiritual Quixote (1773).
