Unusual and poignant George III 15 carat rose gold eye-shaped mourning ring with an Italian inscription 1794.

Inside the shank reads ‘ G.G.W.D. Fanciullo amaro n.otto,e 12 M Guigno 8 1794’

‘Beloved child born October 12 died 8 June 1794’. Delicate strands of his hair remain behind the glass.

Size 9.

The ring is typically English but clearly one or perhaps both parents were Italians living in England. Georgian England attracted many Italian artisans,artists, musicians and craftsmen to Britain.It is noted that in the 1790s many Italians with skills of glass blowing came over to make barometers and by the early c19th dominated the industry.
