Perfectly granulated 15 carat Etruscan-revival sphere earrings c.1860.
The top employs a beehive design and the spherical drops are finely decorated with granulated and applied wire work in a revival of Ancient techniques. 
The style was championed by Castellani family of goldsmiths whose designs were so popular that by the 1867 International Exhibition most jewellers featured ‘Archeological style’ jewels in their showcases.
