Colonel Edward Goate inherited Brent Eleigh Hall from his father. The Hall can be described as ‘a fine Elizabethan E-plan building encased in a fine Georgian cloak’.
The register of deaths reads he died “after a few hours illness,at Ipswich, where he was with his regiment, the East Suffolk militia.”
He left no male heir but two illegitimate daughters, one, Sarah Dionesse, inherited the hall. He was buried in St.Mary’s Church, Eleigh.
