High carat gold and enamel mourning ring for the Earl of Galloway, most likely for John Stewart the 7th Earl 1736-1806.The style of the ring was particularly fashionable in the 1790s so it it unusual to see this shape for 1806.The pierced Galloway monogram with coronet is ingeniously sewn onto the bed of plaited hair.

The 7th Earl was a Scottish peer,Member of Parliament and Lord of the Bedchamber to George III.He was 3xgreat grandfather to Winston Churchill. Size 9.
