Beautifully inscribed large scale gold Georgian mourning ring for the Countess of Donegall 1789.
The blue and white enamelled urn on plinth is tied to it’s original bed of the Countess’s hair,inscribed to the reverse with Countess’s coronet, initials and date “Ob 19th Sept 1789” and “Bien aimé et beaucoup pleuré” (Beloved and much mourned).
Charlotte Spencer was the daughter of Conway Spencer.She first married Thomas Moore and secondly in 1788 Arthur Chichester 1st Marquess of Donegall(1739-1799).
