Superb substantial coral cameo of Zeus c.1820.
The curls of his beard  are beautifully sculpted  as are his laurels and drapery.

In 1790 the Royal Society of Coral was established in the town of Torre del Greco, with the idea of working and selling coral.
In 1805, Paul Bartholomew Martin founded the first workshop exclusively working coral in Torre del Greco and the Golden Age of  Grand Tour coral carving began.
