Unusual Victorian carved coral bull’s head charm c.1860.
The only coral bull I’ve had with gold horns!
The collar at the base is gilt metal but the horns are high carat gold.
The charm hangs from a gold split ring.
The base is set with a banded agate.
Coral head is 1.6 cms long, 1.5 cms deep,1.4 cms wide.
Since Ancient times coral carved amulets have been worn to protect the wearer from harm.
In Ancient Rome, bulls were sacred and were used in rituals and sacrifices to the gods. Bulls were associated with strength, fertility and the god Mars,god of war and agriculture.
