Carnelian heart shaped Georgian pendant set with a glazed locket to the centre c.1820.
English in origin.
This sentimental love token would have likely originally enclosed the hair of the loved one but now contains a patch of silk. The glass is set within a milled wire setting and a wider gold border. The reverse is centred by a gold disc.
Unusually the heart is drilled twice to accommodate two gold rings to thread the chain or ribbon through.
Carnelian was popular for day jewellery in the early c19th and I have had many carnelian hearts but I’ve never seen this exact style.
1.2 inches.
