Unusual 'Essex crystal' pendant depicting a Victorian Bull terrier's head set in 15ct gold c.1870.
The dog's head appears to float and look directly out of the crystal with sweet, soulful eyes.

'Bull-and-terrier' was a common name for bulldog and terrier crossbreeds of the early 1800s.
An 'Essex crystal' is a reverse carved and hand painted intaglio in a domed cabochon rock crystal, they were extremely fashionable in the mid to late c19th particularly among the sporting fraternity.
