Rare Georgian articulated flat-cut foiled garnet ‘arrow through the heart’ c.1770. Silver and gold.
The hinged arrow would have originally pinned lace fabric and served as a fichu, pin, it has been later adapted to a pendant.
This heart belongs to the family of late c18th fichu pins generally in the form of witches hearts and crowned hearts occasionally with arrows through them, set with pastes,garnets,or mirrored Vauxhall glass. The mechanism is often soldered shut but in this case is functioning still.
All stones original, overall excellent condition a few tiny flat-cut garnets are abraded.
