Unusual late c18th high carat gold navette sepia miniature brooch/pendant after John Raphael Smith’s ‘An Evening Walk’ 1783 depicting two fashionable  young ladies in a landscape engaging the viewer with a knowing look. Deep blue enamel border under glass.3cms by 1.5cm.
The original now in the Yale Center for British Art.
J.R.Smith(1751-1812)was an immensely popular painter and prolific mezzotint engraver. Rare for this form of sepia to depart from the more typical images of mourning with urn/willow/mourners.
