Original 18 carat gem-set Georgian acrostic love ring with stones to spell ‘Regard’ c.1820.
Ruby/Emerald/Diamond/Amethyst/Ruby/Diamond spelling Regard was probably the most ubiquitous of the acrostic jewels of the early c19th. The trend originated in France in the last decade of the c18th, when spelling hidden messages was highly fashionable for aristocracy and even Royalty.
This example has a particularly pleasing ropetwist shank and beaded decoration to the head of the ring.
Some wear to the settings,all stones intact.
