Unusual Georgian 2-colour gold 15 carat fob seal c.1820 depicting carved tulips with vari-coloured gold petals and leaves.
The bloodstone seal is carved with the family shield armorial.
In the c19th the meaning attached to a particular flower would have been well known and the language of flowers was ripe for interpretation through jewels.The tulip symbolised a declaration of everlasting love.This fob seal would have been worn by an aristocrat to commemorate the union of her family to that of her husband.
